Karti Chidambaram, son of Congress leader P.Chidambaram, who is being targeted by the CBI in what the Congress calls a ‘political witch hunt’, suffered chest pain in Coorg and was treated by doctors.
According to reports, Karti was given preliminary treatment at Virajpet on Saturday after which he left for Chennai.
Karti, who has been summoned by the CBI in connection with the Aircel-Maxis case, owns coffee plantations in Coorg in his name and also in the names of his wife Srinidhi and daughter Aditi.
The relatives of Karti own substantial properties and businesses in Coorg. The Income Tax department had this April raided the business and residential premises of SLN Group, near Kushalanagar. The IT officials seized documents from Vishwanathan and Sathappan, of the SLN group.
The I-T sleuths conducted searches at a coffee processing unit, coffee curing works at Kudlooru industrial area, SLN Timbers depot, and petrol bunk at Madapatna, Purple Farm resorts at Bellur, Eden Garden Layout at Theppadagandi and coffee estate office at Polibetta. More than 100 I-T sleuths had participated in the searches.
Though it is reported that Karti was involved in many questionable deals , political observers feel that the family is being particularly targeted because of the vociferous criticism of the Modi government’s flawed economic policies by former Union finance minister Chidambaram.
