‘THE ROMANCE OF INDIAN COFFEE’ BOOK RANKED ‘BEST IN THE WORLD’

Indian writer P.T. Bopanna’s book ‘The Romance of Indian Coffee’ has been chosen as the world’s best book on coffee. The Gourmand World Awards function, was held recently at Yantai near Beijing, China.

 Bopanna’s book was earlier shortlisted for the finals of the ‘Best in the World’ books, under the ‘coffee books’ category, it was selected from the entries of 64 countries. The book ‘The Romance of Indian Coffee’, was published in 2011, and takes a 360-degree view of Indian coffee.

 The final results of the completion were announced recently in which ‘The Romance of Indian Coffee’ was ranked first, followed by entries from the United States and Brazil in the second and third places respectively.

Previous Indian winners of this award, include Vir Sanghvi, Rocky and Mayur (of ‘Highway on My Plate’ fame) and food critic and historian Pushpesh Pant.

The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards were founded in 1995 by Edouard Cointreau. It is open to publishers in all languages and countries. The Gourmand Awards celebrate global cookbook and wine book publishing, and feature many world-renowned chefs each year. The Gourmand International headquarters is located in Spain. 

Bopanna is a Bengaluru-based freelance journalist and author. He has worked for various national dailies in the last three decades, including the Times of India. He has authored five books. Bopanna runs a few Coorg-centric websites and recently produced a documentary film titled ‘Discover Coorg’.
