WRITER DEVAIAH BOPANNA’S DOCUMENTARY FEATURE FILM SHORTLISTED FOR CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

THE BORDERLANDS FILM POSTER

A documentary feature film co-produced by writer Devaiah Bopanna (in picture) has been shortlisted to go to Cannes Film Festival in the category of ‘Work in Progress’.

Devaiah co-founded All Things Small (ATS), a media company, less than a year ago and their first documentary feature film ‘The Borderlands’ has made it to Cannes.

The documentary feature film team consisting of Samarth Mahajan, Ashay Gangwar and Sunil Doshi, aims to capture the human side of life in the Indian borderlands.  It is an intimate exploration of how everyday lives intertwine with borders in the Indian subcontinent.

Another cofounder of ATS Gaurav Vaz, has been quoted as saying: “Never thought this would happen in the very first year we started, let alone the first 6 months. But our journey with The Borderlands has been quite spectacular.”

The Cannes Festival is an annual film festival held in Cannes, France, which previews new films of all genres, including documentaries from all around the world. In view of the pandemic, the festival this time is going to be a virtual affair, unlike the usual red carpet extravaganza attended by celebrities like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, etc.

Palanganda Bopanna Devaiah (33), did his schooling at Baldwins, Bengaluru, and graduated in engineering from the BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru. He worked as copywriter in various advertising agencies in Bengaluru, before moving to Mumbai where he was head writer at comedy collective AIB.

Last year, Devaiah co-founded All Things Small, a Mumbai-based start-up dedicated to telling true stories in a variety of formats.
