Coorgtourisminfo.com, Coorg’s first tourism and news portal started in 2005 is being relaunched in a new avatar.
With Coorg district in Karnataka emerging as a prime eco-tourism destination in South India, journalist and author P.T. Bopanna has decided to merge five of his Coorg-centric websites with his flagship website www.coorgtourisminfo.com.
Bopanna says: “My aim is to provide all information relating to Coorg (Kodagu) under one roof. I am merging my recipes, homestays, jewellery, and books sites. However, my Coorg news site will not be merged. The merger is intended for easy navigation across segments.”
The integrated new site will have sections, which will include tourist spots and homestays in Coorg, Kodava culture, origin of Kodavas, history, jewellery, festivals, Jamma lands, gun rights, books, blogs and videos on Coorg and the Kodavas.
There is a section devoted to Kodava rituals relating to birth, wedding and death for ready reference. “I felt the need for providing the rituals in detail because the Kodava diaspora is spread across the world and this information could come in handy for them”, Bopanna added.
Renowned travel writer Priya Ganapathy’s tour plan for those wanting to visit Coorg during the week-end has been retained. You can use it to chalk out a plan to visit the various tourist spots spread across the district.
The list of homestays has been given area-wise with contact details, along with the list of government approved homestays.
The videos cover major tourist spots, a Kodava wedding, Kodava festivals, the Kodava family hockey tournament, a list of famous Kodavas, Kodava folk dances, jewellery of Kodavas, and a step by step guide on how to drape the sari in the Kodava style.
KSRTC bus timings from Bangalore to Coorg and back have been provided, with routes to be taken for getting to Coorg by road. Distances from Coorg to the nearest airports and railway stations are given. There are contact details for police stations, hospitals, bus stations and tourist centres in Coorg. A list of trekking spots is included.
The section on ‘Coorg experiences’ will describe the first hand experiences of travellers who have visited the major tourist spots in Coorg.
There is a section dedicated to the unique Coorg jewellery and the traditional Kodava attire for men and women.
Writer C.P. Belliappa’s popular column, and articles from some of the leading writers from Coorg on Kodava culture and religion have been featured along with blogs relating to recipes, books, homestays and Kodava culture.
The new site has been developed by Illucus Creative Marketing Agency, Bengaluru.
