GEORGE BACK IN MINISTRY. NO JUSTICE FOR LATE DYSP GANAPATHI

By P.T. Bopanna

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah re-inducted K.J. George into his ministry on Monday even before the latter was given a ‘clean chit’ by the court in the case involving the alleged suicide of Dy SP M.K. Ganpathi.

Though the police had filed a ‘B’ report (no evidence against the accused) in the JMFC court at Madikeri, the court is yet to give its ruling in the case.

The JMFC judge Annapoorneshwari has given time till September 29 to Ganapathi’s son Nehal, who had filed a private complaint, to file objections to the ‘B’ report.

Even before the objection was filed, Siddaramaiah decided to re-induct George into the ministry, resulting in many eye-brows being raised.

Asked for his opinion on the re-induction of George, leading advocate M.T. Nanaiah told the news portal www.www.coorgnews.in, that the action of taking back George was “premature as the chief minister could have waited for a few more days till the JMFC court gave its ruling”.

It looks like even Governor Vajubhai Vala too erred in administering the oath of office to George. Apparently, the state government did not present all the facts pertaining to the case to the Governor.

George had resigned on July 18 following the court’s directive to police to register a First Information Report against him and two other IPS officers whom Ganapathi had named in his last video interview given to news channels as persons who had been harassing him.

Ganapathi’s son Nehal has been quoted as saying that his “lonely” battle for justice badly affected his studies. “When my father committed suicide by holding George and the IPS officers responsible, everyone was with us. But once the minister resigned, they all deserted us. If I continue the fight for the CBI probe, my future will be at stake,” he said.

Questions are being raised why Siddaramaiah was in such a tearing hurry to re-induct George. Was it because of the latter’s closeness to the Gandhi family?
