According to reports, protesting farmers in Srirangapattana taluk of Mandya district have blocked the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.
As a precautionary measure, schools and colleges in the district have been closed for one day. Around 2,400 policemen have been deployed to monitor the situation.
In Bengaluru, chief minister Siddaramaiah has convened a meeting of all MPs and floor leaders in the legislature on Tuesday to discuss the Supreme Court directive on releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
The Mandya district administration has also banned entry of tourists to the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir and the Brindavan Gardens in its downstream from Tuesday to Friday.
Meanwhile, pro-Kannada outfits have called for a Karnataka bandh on September 9 to protest against release of water to Tamil Nadu.
